TALIA BARROWS
Talia K. Barrows began studying classical ballet at age ten. Being a native of upstate Pennsylvania, she danced with the Corning/Elmira Ballet and the Williamsport Civic Ballet. Moving to Philadelphia, she attended Franklin Learning Center as a dance major, training extensively with Faye Snow. Later, as a three year member of Philadanco’s training program, she studied with Pat Thomas, Milton Myers and many other master teachers of the modern dance world. Internationally, Talia has trained in Oslo, Norway and traveled to West Africa with the 'America’s Gift to Africa' tour, where she performed as both an actress and dancer. Her other performance credits include 'Urban Rhapsody', an adaptation of 'For Colored Girls…' and several seasons with Monarch Dance Company. Talia has also appeared in and choreographed for local music videos, television productions and documentaries. Talia is a graduate of The Community College of Philadelphia’s theatre department and has been teaching dance and theatre in the Philadelphia area since 2000. Ms. Barrows is currently working toward her BFA in dance at Temple University.
ADRIENNE HALL-CEDENO
Adrienne Hall-Cedeno is a native of Atlanta, GA. Performing for 15 years, and teaching professionally for 12, Adrienne is primarily trained in modern, west african, and afro-Brazilian dance but also skilled in ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop. Adrienne has studied and performed in China, West Africa, South Africa, Cuba, Brazil and Holland. While in Atlanta she performed with the Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta, Jomandi Productions and Total Dance/Dancical Productions. Adrienne received her Bachelor’s degree in Modern Dance/Dance Education from the University of the Arts and her Masters in Education concentrated in dance in addition to her PA certification to teach grades 7-12 from Temple University. In December 2008, Adrienne received her certification in Contemporary African Dance from the University of Ghana in Accra. She has been employed as an Adjunct Professor in the dance department at Temple University for three (3) years and in addition to this, is also employed by the Delaware Institute for the Arts and Education “DIAE,” Education Works as a Dance Teaching Artist, and at Imhotep Charter School as a Dance Instructor. Since relocating to Philadelphia Adrienne has worked for the Philadelphia Dance Alliance, University of the Arts, The Institute for the Development of Education in the Arts “IDEA”, New Jersey After 3 Program, Freedom Schools and an array of dance studios in the tri-state area. Adrienne is a former Apprentice for Urban Bush Women, in addition to dancing with Rhythm and Roots, Charles O. Anderson’s Dance Theater X , Troupe DA DA, and Dunya/Jassu Ballet. Working as the Director of Dance Education Artist in Residency program for Danse4Nia Repertory Ensemble, she currently performs with Kariamu and Company and Alo Brasil.
JOCELYN ISSAC
A Maryland native, Jocelyn Isaac began her dance training at 10 with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Ballet Theatre of Maryland. While earning her BFA in Dance and BBA in Marketing from Temple University, she studied under Milton Myers, Pat Thomas and Kim Bears-Bailey at Philadanco's training program. In 2008, she interned with the Mark Morris Dance Company in NY and worked as an audition assistant for the Ballet Tech Foundation. Jocelyn has had the opportunity to perform on the Mall in Washington D.C., Showtime at the Apollo, The Jenny Jones Show, and the historic Warner Theater of D.C. She has performed works by Adrian Bolton, Laverne Reed, Savion Glover, Wayne St. David, Phil Grosser, Dr. Kariamu Welsh, and Kim Bears-Bailey. Jocelyn's students at the Living Arts Dance Studio have performed throughout Philadelphia, and for the 76ers halftime show. She is proud to be a member of DanceTheatreX and Danse4Nia Repertory Ensemble.
CINDY LOGAN
Cindy is a native of the West Indies, but raised Brooklyn, New York where she began her dance training at Brooklyn Tech High School, and the Harlem Hospital Dance Clinic. She went on to further her training at STEPS on Broadway and The Ailey School with classes in Horton, Ballet, Jazz and African Dance Techniques. Cindy attended Long Island University, C.W. Post, where she earned a BFA in Dance Studies, before moving to Philadelphia, where she trained with Danco II. Most recently Cindy has been blessed with the opportunity to be working with Danse4Nia, where she is extremely thankful to be progressing her art.
JAMEY LONG-RISLIN
Jamey Leeanne Long-Rislin is a native of Montclair, New Jersey. Jamey received her early dance and theatre training as a member of The School of Visual and Performing Arts at Montclair High School. She has danced as an apprentice with Premiere Dance Theatre and was fortunate to attend The Summer Arts Institute (SAI) and The Governor’s School in New Jersey. Jamey attended Mount Holyoke College and majored in Dance and Psychology. While at Mount Holyoke Jamey was a member of the Five College Dance Consortium and completed an honors thesis entitled 'Pushing People To Ponder: Using Art To Comment On Social Justice Issues'. Jamey obtained additional training as a member of PHILADANCO’s Instructional Training Program and Danco2. Later she received her Masters in Social Work from The University of Pennsylvania where she established The Social Work Arts Project (SWAP). Jamey has performed works by Karen Love of The Umoja Dance Company; Trebian Pollard of Pilobolous Dance Company and Keila Cordova of Keila Cordova Dances. She has studied with Dottie Walker Bennett, Wade Madsen, Cassandra Phifer Moore, Pat Thomas and Milton Myers. Jamey is currently a member of The Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church where she dances with The Spirit of David Dance Ministry. Jamey works as a Licensed Social Worker and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She continues to be interested in using dance as a didactic tool to promote social change, social awareness and social progress.
SHAVONNE MURPHY
Shavonne Sade' Murphy hails from Philadelphia, PA. She is currently a senior at Penn State University and is majoring in Kinesiology- Fitness Studies with a minor in Dance. Shavonne’s eighteen years of dance training are credited to The New Freedom Theatre, Philadanco and Dance Theatre of Harlem. She has extensive training in Ballet, Modern, Jazz and Umfundalia. She has had the honor of performing in various productions with Freedom Theatre, Philadanco, Eleone Dance Theatre, Kariamu & Co., and Dance Theatre of Harlem. While attending Penn State, Shavonne is a member of Orchesis Dance Company, Barrafo African Dance & Drum Company, Afi’ Dance Company and University Dance Company. She is a recurring performer representing Penn State at the American College Dance Festival (ACDF) Shavonne is currently the President of the Mu Eta Chapter, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.
SARA C. NYE
Sara C. Nye graduated from Dickinson College in 2007 with a B.A. in English and a focus in Creative Writing. Since moving to Philadelphia she has worked with local artists Kathryn TeBordo, Jennifer Rose of Loose Screws Contemporary Tap Co., and Scott McPheeters. She was also a part of Willi Dorner's bodies in urban spaces in the 2008 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival. Nye has performed for the Opera Company of Philadelphia, understudied at Arden Theatre Company, worked for the Walnut Street Theatre and Enchantment Theatre Company, and taught outreach classes for Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers in South Philly.
CAROLINE O'BRIEN
Caroline has been dancing since she was three in a small studio outside of Philadelphia originally named 'Studio of Ballet and Dance' and recently changed to 'Dance Fusion Performance Center'. By age thirteen, Caroline started getting more serious with her dancing. Until she reached this age, dancing in the studio was just a fun after school activity but now she was performing in shows that were not linked to her school as the Beaute modeling company took hold of a select group of dancers to model, and dance in new fashions and styles from Strawbridge's department store. In the fall of 2005 Caroline started her Bachelor's degree at Temple University to major in Dance, and minor in Digital Media. Also around that time she apprenticed with the all female hip hop group known as FloMotion. In 2006 she became a member of Temple University's hip hop and reggae group known as BAMN ( By Any Means Necessary), which was led by a very talented choreographer and graphic designer, Jerome Harris. At the end of 2007, Caroline left Temple University in hopes of finding another career path of interest, as well as living the artist life. This time also marked her acceptance into Danse4Nia Repertory Ensemble. Recently she was assistant choreographer for a high school musical in Chichester PA and now Caroline is currently a full time student at the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, studying to be a certified Pharmacy Technician where she will gain her certificate and associates degree in Allied Health. She still dances for Jerome Harris whose choreography is occasionally sent out for possible acceptance in concerts, and shows from Philadelphia to New York. Caroline also teaches Hip Hop for all ages, at Dance Fusion Performance Center in Aston, PA.
